Jive Turkey

A turkey placemat (idea from here). Emily cut out almost everything and I sewed it. She made her own pattern for the feet! I used a large dinner plate as a template for the turkey body. I wanted it large enough to use as a place mat like the pottery barn kids ones. I used wool felt for all of it.

It's a little hard to look at all the wobbly cutting and not want to correct it (I actually did some. Some pieces were so jaggedy your eye was drawn to it). I used contrasting thread because 1. it made it so much easier and 2. it looks like something a kid would do.
`
I did use really awful wool blend felt from woolfeltcentral.com for the backing on the turkey body. It was hard to due becasue I want the whole thing to look good even when turned over but I have to get rid of it sooo I used it. I wont show it. It's ugly.

Every time I look at this ship from pottery barn kids I think of Jessica. It looks like something she'd see there and then go home and make it  but better.

On the way home from the bus stop yesterday I had Emily stop and take off her jacket...
So I could get a picture of this outfit!! Isn't she the most cutest??? I scored a huge deal on LOTS of Gap Kids uniform stuff from the nicest ebayer ever. This jumper is my favorite. I like Ava's facial expression in the one above. It was SO windy and cold.

My Lady Coat

Another felt ornament but not from the Fa La la La Felt. I got the inspiration from here and then took a pattern from here and altered it to look like the inspiration ornament.
I had to draw my own arms and mittens. And I do know that this coat looks like a 2 year old sewed it together. I just hate hand sewing..... But I also like the hand sewed look of it.

I'm a sucker for white top stitching on things.
This was a trial one so the next should look a lot neater but I will still hate hand sewing so there are no guarantees.  I will however change some things. I made it with no opening in the front. oh well. I also have no more small buttons like this so it'll be a while probably before I make another. I think they are a tad to big anyway.

ein Weihnachtsbaum ist gut, but 6 are better!

More lovelies from the Fa la la la Felt book. I used wool felt from achildsdream. Oh wait, I didn't, I used the felt I got from a German store ..I went with Corinnea and have no idea where it was. A Childs Dream doesn't have some of the colors. I'm going to try some felt from heather Baily's site. it's wool and bamboo. It sounds nice but I've been fooled before! I used stuffing for most of the tree and then added plastic pellets in the bottom. The tallest is 7" tall and about 4.5 around.

A "mug rug" from Kelly. isn't it CUUUTE?? I guess these are the big thing right now in blogland. I had  never heard of them until Kelly gave me this then I started noticing them on blogs. genius! Although I can tell you exactly how they came about. Someone was drinking coffee in her sewing room and spilled or left a ring of coffee on a pattern. She looked around and saw a mini quilt and thought " duh!! Finally a use for that tiny quilt!". or something like that.... it's genius either way.
You know someone likes you when they cut into their much coveted stack (and I really mean yards and yards) of Celebrate Spring by Sandy Gervais for Moda. Heidi made this 1/2 yard bundle for me. She LOVES this line. In fact she bought out Sandy Gervais herself from her blog. I made this quilt, and this quilt and this mini out of the fabric a long time ago. Thank you Heidi:)
*I wish I had a pictures of the quilts Heidi and Mary A. have made using this line...that's a hint to send pictures so I can post them:)

The other night I made some chicken that required me to cook it in a skillet and then put the whole skillet in the oven to cook further. I took the skillet out with an oven mitt but then grabbed it a couple of seconds later without the oven mitt. I burned my hand VERY bad. It was excruciating and my hand was throbbing. I immediately got online and searched for some way to make it better. I found a site that said to wrap it in aluminum foil. WTF? So I did it. Like people said on the site, your burn (in this case my palm and fingers) will get really hot and hurt worse but then it will stop. It didn't stop hurting while I wore my foil mitt but did stop after I took it off, about 15 minutes of wearing it. And since then I've had NO pain, no blisters no nothing but some dry skin where the worst of the burns was. Either my burn was never really that bad or the foil thing actually worked. Anyone ever heard of this???

For Baby Mimi

Front and back of a wool felt ornament for Baby Mimi. I want to send it soon so her mommy (Jocelyn aka Girlfriend in a Coma) can put it on their tree but I didn't want to post about it after Christmas. So surprise Jocelyn! And Merry Christmas:) I need to make some for my girls now.

I know I could have made this way cuter by detailing the animals (you know I could have) but I had the white animal silhouettes left over from another project. I'm working my way through the Fa La La La Felt book and will post those projects soon.

**
I just finished listening to the coolest audio book! It's called
It was really fascinating and funny. I didn't want it to end. I highly recomend it.

Shark vs. Dragon

Aren't they the cutest?  You should have seen Ava that night trick-or-treating. She waddled from house to house. She had a few favorites candies in a kung-fu grip all night. After we got home, her and Emily opened about half there candy, licking then spitting out then opening a new one.
*
Below is actual trick-or-treating.  I look a little psychotic..

Here is the weather thermometer Kelly got me as a going away gift.
To remind me of Stuttgart:(  I LOVE it! It's like it was made for me.
Halloween was our 9th wedding anniversary. I have no new photos so I didn't post about it. We have been together 18 years now! Crazy!! We could have an 18 year old kid! Thank God we don't but I always think about that.
